A Week of Halloween Stories - Day 5

As part of a Halloween writing contest, and in the spirit of Halloween, I decided to write seven short children stories. Today is day 5. If you like my short story please let me know in the comments below. Each of these will be short, 100 words or less. It's the contest rules and it has been fun trying to make it work. Wish me luck!

Clowning Around - Chris Shumate

I settled into bed after an exhausting night of collecting candy. A flickering, eerie glow came from the streetlight casting shadows in the dark. Trees swayed and leaves blew outside.

A pecking at my window startled me awake—only a tree. After settling down, I went back to sleep.

The wind howled, waking me again.

Lightning flashed, something was outside my window.

“Dad,” I cried.

Silence.

“Mom,” I screamed.

The sky light up again, two costumed clowns came in reaching out to me as I cried.

Thankfully it was Mom and Dad, but I’ve been haunted by clowns since then.
