As part of a Halloween writing contest, and in the spirit of Halloween, I decided to write
seven short children stories. Today is day 4. If you like my short story please let me know in the comments below. Each of these will be short, 100 words or less. It's the contest rules and it
has been fun trying to make it work. Wish me luck!
Jawbreaker Candy - Chris Shumate
Annie’s heart jumped when she saw a haunting figure run past her in the dark neighborhood. The flashlight comforted her little.
The walk up the last drive was long. A green face woman in a witch costume came to the door.
She reached her hand out and said, “Here you go, a jawbreaker should do the trick for ya.”
“Thank you,” Annie said with a furrowed forehead.
Suddenly, a firecracker went off near her feet. Annie swung her bag.
“Ouch!” A voice cried.
Annie ran away—half laughing and half crying, “That did come in handy.”
