After a conversation about my book with a new buddy of mine, he quipped to me, “Do you have one of those Gofundme pages for it?” He said it jokingly, chuckling after saying it. But his comment got me thinking about the need for Gofundme, and why I should consider, or not consider, using it.
I am not an expert on the website. According to their tour page, it is free to sign up and easy to use. There are many national media sources (USA
Today, Forbes, Fast Company, to name a few) that are supporters of the website.
The site lists many successful fund raisers, a few from the Boston bombing incident, as well as heart-tugging stories of illnesses and death, in which well-deserving people receive funds from some people they know, and others they don’t.
Okay, enough about what Gofundme is; go check out their site for yourself by clicking here. Maybe it will serve your needs. Maybe one day it will serve my needs.
My first blog was about why I decided to write a book. Check out that post by clicking here. When you read why I wrote the book, it is evident that I didn’t write it to become the next Dr. Seuss, P.D. Eastman, Shel Silverstein, etc. I wrote it for my boy. I also wrote it for other men with boys that like to fish, who want to impart Biblical values into story form. I also have other books I have started that have other Biblical values in children’s story form.
There are over 4,000 entries with “writing” as the search word on Gofundme’s site. For me that’s a little too many people seeking funding for writing in order to be effective for obtaining money for my writing projects.
Do I want your money for my book? Yes, in fact if you want to buy several copies contact me and we can work out a price for however many you want. I want to sell you something of value. Some people on Gofundme will offer a free, signed copy if someone sponsors them with so much money. Here’s what I will do, if you order my book and want me to sign it, I will be happy to at no extra charge.
I want to get my message of Biblical parenting out to many fathers. My heart is for men that grew up like I did to reverse the curse of broken homes. My biological dad checked out early in my life. I don’t want my son to experience what I did. My stepdad was a great man, but that’s another topic for another day.
Here’s what I know: I believe in my book that I wrote for my son so much that my wife and I paid the entire cost to make it happen. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it difficult? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes.
So if you haven’t bought my book yet you can do so by purchasing it through my website. If you do not have PayPal but still want it, it is also listed on Amazon.
